Biodiversity advocacy

While the comprehensiveness of AKP’s climate work has always involved biodiversity and ecosystems, the emergence of nature-based solutions and increased focus on the climate-nature interlinkages has the network becoming more directly present in biodiversity and ecosystems-focused workstreams.

AKP is one of the acknowledged CSO partners under the recently-created National Coordinating Group on Key Biodiversity Areas (NCG-KBA). This aims to strengthen multisectoral coordination towards enhancing the protection of critical biodiversity spots in the Philippines.

AKP and its members have been among the active CSO participants in the development of the Philippine Blue Carbon Roadmap, led by the National Blue Carbon Action Partnership. The network’s calls in this process have centered on highlighting the climate-biodiversity nexus in blue carbon, improving education and communication initiatives for their conservation, and unlocking sources of finance to support relevant activities.
